OTAVA was formed as a result of a grant Otter Tail County received from the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse. A requirement of the grant was that a one day workshop would be held with community partners working in the area of vulnerable adults and the elderly to develop a Strategic Plan for Otter Tail County and how the funds would be used to develop resources for the prevention of abuse to vulnerable adults this was held May 2, 2008. Four Committees were developed to accomplish the goals of the alliance. They are the Multi-Discipline Team Committee (MDT), the Education and Resource Development Committee, The Website Committee and the Advocacy Committee. Two multi-disciplinary teams have been developed to provide professionals working with vulnerable adults an opportunity for case consultation. One team meets at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls and one at Perham Memorial Hospital in Perham. Brochures and bags printed with our logo and contact information have been developed. The advocacy committee continues to coordinate with the county TRIAD in safety programs for the elderly.
