NOTICE OF PUBLIC ACCURACY TEST 

Pursuant to Minnesota Statute 206.83, Otter Tail County will test the AutoMARK and precinct based optical scan voting equipment that will be used for the vote tabulation in the State Primary Election to be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018. Otter Tail County uses ES&S voter assist AutoMARKs and the ES&S DS200 Precinct Based Optical Scan Ballot Tabulators. 

Otter Tail County will test its election equipment at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018, in the Otter Tail Lake/Commissioners’ Room of the Otter Tail Government Services Center located at 500-600 Fir Ave W., Fergus Falls, MN. The purpose of this testing is to ascertain that the equipment will correctly count and tabulate the votes cast for all races, candidates and ballot questions. This test must be observed by at least two election judges, not of the same political party, and is open to the public, representatives of the political parties, candidates and the press. 2018 NOTICE OF FEDERAL AND STATE OFFICES TO BE VOTED

FOR AT THE STATE GENERAL ELECTION

OTTER TAIL COUNTY, MINNESOTA

Notice is hereby given pursuant to Minnesota Statutes Section 204B.33 that the following federal and state offices will be voted for at the state general election to be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.  The filing period for United States Senator (term ending January 3, 2025), United States Senator (term ending January 3, 2021), United States Representative, State Representative, Minnesota Governor and Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State Auditor, Attorney General, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Judge of the Minnesota Court of Appeals, and Judge of the Seventh Judicial District Court begins at 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2018 and ends at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2018. 

Note:  Filing offices will be closed Monday, May 28, 2018, in observance of Memorial Day.

The place of filing for federal offices is the Office of the Secretary of State, State Office Building, Room 180, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55155-1299. The place of filing for state offices is with the Office of the Secretary of State or with the County Auditor of the county in which the candidate resides. 

Candidates may file in person or by mail, if the filing is received during the filing period. Candidates who will be absent from the state during the filing period and meet the requirements of Minnesota Statutes section 204B.09, subdivision 1a, may arrange to file during the seven days immediately preceding the candidate’s absence from the state.

Otter Tail County Election Administration encourages you to verify your voter registration. If you are not registered or if your registration needs to be updated we encourage you to either register or update your registration on or before Tuesday, October 18, 2016.

Note – Registration temporarily closes 20 days before the November 8, 2016 State General Election, and opens again on Election Day for voters to register at their polling place.

Preregistration will save you time at the polling place on Election Day.

Absentee Voting


State General Election – Tuesday, November 8, 2016



When –

Officially begins on Friday, September 23, 2016 and with some limited exceptions ends at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016.

How and Where –

In Person – at the County Auditor-Treasurer’s office, which is in the Government Services Center located at 510 Fir Ave W., Fergus Falls, MN 56537.

Beginning Friday, September 23, 2016 during normal business hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5 and until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016, an eligible individual can complete their absentee ballot application and cast their ballot in person at the office identified above.

Fully complete your paper absentee ballot application and then submit your paper absentee ballot application to the Otter Tail County Auditor – Treasurer’s office for processing using one of the following methods:

If you choose to obtain an absentee ballot by submitting an absentee ballot application by either mail, email or by applying online please plan to allow enough time for your ballot package to be mailed to you and for you to return your ballot package to us. Your ballot will not be counted if it is received after Election Day and your ballot cannot be returned by email or fax.

Special Application Process for Military and Overseas Voters


– If you are serving in the military or living temporarily or indefinitely overseas you can have an absentee ballot sent to you wherever you are in the world.

You can apply online or by using a paper application. It is very important to follow the instructions found by clicking the following link: http://www.sos.state.mn.us/elections-voting/other-ways-to-vote/vote-from-military-or-abroad/

If you are eligible to use this special application process, please note that the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State recommends that you mail your ballot back before Friday, October 7, 2016. Your ballot will not be counted if it is received after Election Day and your ballot cannot be returned by email or fax.
